Bid Engineer
Do you have deep AV expertise and a passion for the early stages of a project, where briefs are dissected, solutions are shaped and the real technical thinking happens? If you are ready to bring that knowledge into a commercial, client facing bid environment where your work directly influences business wins, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
About the Role
As a Bid Engineer, you'll own the technical response for AV sales opportunities and RFPs across EMEA. From interpreting a client brief through to building a fully itemised equipment list, costing the solution and producing technical documentation that wins the work — this is a role where deep AV knowledge meets sharp commercial thinking.
You'll be the technical authority in the bid process — attending client meetings, conducting site surveys, presenting at mid-bid and post-bid interviews, and producing the functional narratives, scope of works and schematics that set a proposal apart. Once appointed, you'll also ensure a seamless handover to the project delivery teams, setting every project up for success from day one.
What you'll be doing
• Interpreting client briefs and ITT/RFP documents to build fully itemised AV equipment lists
• Conceptualising AV system designs covering video, audio, control and AV software
• Building Bills of Materials (BOM), project costings and budget estimations
• Producing detailed technical responses explaining solution rationale and technology choices
• Creating high-level system schematics and PDF spatial coordination markups
• Generating functional system descriptions and Scope of Works documentation
• Attending client discovery meetings, site surveys and post-bid interviews
• Raising RFIs and validating design compliance with RFP requirements
• Providing peer reviews and technical guidance to other bid team members
• Delivering detailed, insightful handovers to Project Managers and delivery teams
• Staying current with emerging technologies through manufacturer training and industry events
What we are looking for
• AVIXA CTS certification is required; CTS-D is strongly preferred
• Minimum 5 years' experience responding to consultant-led RFPs
• Minimum 3 years' AV system design experience
• Deep understanding of AV systems — video, audio, control, UC and AV software
• Solid grasp of project phases from Conceptualisation through to Commissioning
• Understanding of the construction process, installation, integration and architectural drawings
• Strong commercial and financial acumen — you know how to build and defend a budget
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to executive audiences
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple bids simultaneously to tight deadlines
• Interest in emerging technologies and a drive to keep learning
What's in it for you
• Private healthcare from day one (with the option to add family members)
• Generous Holiday Allowance (increases with service) plus the option to purchase additional days
• Employee Assistance Programme
• Bike to Work scheme
• Pension
• Yearly Specsavers voucher and flu jab
• Ad-hoc team events
